Three years before the story he and his brother Hougen lived in a kennel secluded in the mountains. They resorted to eating a human out of hunger and escaped after Shouji and his partner Tanuma discovered them. He becomes the leader of 200 dogs in the Niigata Prefecture.

He is killed by his brother as an act of mercy.
