Polt

Polt is the mechanic of the space transport The Orion. He's caught up in trouble when the escaped prisoners hijack the ship and kill the crewmates, only to be sucked through a gravity storm, finding themselves near the same planet Luna and the rest are. He takes a particular liking to Shingo as they are both mechanically inclined.

Polt assists Shingo and the rest in defeating the escapees by installing their gyrostabilizer in The Orion to leave the planet, but are unsuccessful as the escapees catch up. When the ship starts to catch on fire and explode, the children evacuate and Polt escapes with a parachute, with the escapees left on the ship to collide with the ancient ruins, killing them all. Polt is injured by his landing but spends his remaining time helping the children reconstruct the ship to head for the main computer.

He dies one day before the flight and is buried near Everyone’s House. The ship is named The Orion by Sharla in his legacy, and Shingo promises to find Porte’s son.
