Tianlu is a mythical beast called a Pixiu. They are believed to bring good fortune and ward off evil, and they can have either an appetite for jewels and expensive treasures, or an appetite for ill-gotten goods and evil spirits.

Seeking shelter and sanctuary from humans during the modern age of Earth, he reunites with his old colleague Sibuxiang, who lets him stay in his home and shop Luren Dian, in exchange for his services working for him.
